Waltz with Bashir

un film de Ari Folman The First animated documentary : a journey into the darkness of Western Beirut during the Sabra and Chatila Massacre (September 1982)

WALTZ WITH BASHIR Due to an unfortunate computer error, I was recruited into the army before I was 17 years old. In September 1982, before I reached my 19th birthday, I hardly weighed 60 kilos and I already looked much older than my age, having encountered death and other inconceivable situations that a young boy experiences in war. After three months in Lebanon, elected president Bashir Jumail was assassinated on the day of his nomination. The following morning, I arrived in West Beirut with the Israeli army: I was tired and depressed of never having managed to hit my target during my daily battles. I left West Beirut as a completely different person only three days later, having witnessed the atrocious massacre in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. This is my story, a story I decided not to deal with for the past twenty years.
